Tip of the Day: When billing enteral nutrition supplies to
Government agencies you will need a Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN)
from the physician prescribing the item along with a prescription. One
(1) unit equals 100 calories. Do not deliver more than what the patient
needs. If for example, the doctor prescribes 1500 cal a day that would
be 15 units a day which equals 450 units a month. Depending on the
product, you will get a certain amount of calories per bag or can (see
our free downloads page for more information). To determine how
many cans should you deliver per month you would multiply 1500
cal/day x 30days = 45000 cal per month. If you divide it by the 250cal
per can that would equal the number of cans needed to be deliver in a
month =180 cans
